IHM Sisters and the IHM Healthcare System
The Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ Sisters is a Catholic religious congregation founded by Archbishop Charles Heerey with a mission rooted in love, service, and the promotion of human dignity. From their earliest days, the Sisters have been dedicated to meeting the spiritual and social needs of communities, with a strong emphasis on education and healthcare.
Guided by compassion and a deep sense of purpose, they have played a vital role in expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly in underserved areas. Today, the congregation runs seven hospitals across different states in Nigeria, including Archbishop Charles Heerey Memorial Specialist Hospital, each committed to delivering professional, patient-centered care.
Under the leadership of Mother Maureen Akabogu, the Superior General and current Proprietor, the mission of the Sisters continues to thrive, blending faith, compassion, and clinical excellence to improve lives and strengthen communities.
